The secure imputation service uses encryption to protect genotype datasets using public key encryption generated locally by the data owner. The data is encrypted at the client side once and is never decrypted at the server side. The private key should be kept confidential.
Secure imputation service does not use registrations or manage user accounts. The unique folder identifier is used by the server to keep track of the genotype data and also by the user to access the results. The folder identifier is simply a folder name on the cloud for the server to identify the user's dataset. It is not related to the user's identity. It is therefore important to keep track of the session identifier by recording it somewhere accessible so that previous sessions can be recalled.
To recall a folder id (and the data uploaded to it), click on "Recall Folder" button above and enter the folder identifier you wish to recall. Please note that only folders with uploaded data can be recalled. If you did not upload any data (or deleted the data of a folder), the folder does not exist and cannot be recalled.
For example, you can use "..." to recall the folder that stores data for the current session.
When you are ready with setting up the session or recalling a previous folder, you can start imputation task by clicking on each of the steps below:
Download the genotype encryption tool (HECRYPT) to generate the public/private keys and encrypt the genotypes.
Detailed documentation for HECRYPT can be found here. There is also an example of a preprocessed VCF file that can be readily submitted to server for demonstration.
HECRYPT takes a VCF file with sample genotypes as input. Follow the options to generate keys, encrypt, and clean the genotypes. Upload the file with extension ".tar.bz2" that contains the encrypted genotypes, loci, public key, and sample size information.
The file that has extension ".private_key" is necessary to decrypt the results after imputation is finished. It is very important to store the private key in a secure place as it cannot be recovered if it is lost or deleted. We strongly recommend copying the private key file and the folder identifier to a safe place right after encryption before uploading the data.
Please select the encrypted genotype file (with extension ".tar.bz2") and click on "Upload".
